Seven Deadly Sins

Since my co-blogger is too busy to post anything... I do the talking..

Those of you on my lesson enrichment program would have read this already. This is for the rest of the readers.... here's the reduced version:

Pope Gregory the Great came up with the 7 deadly sins to keep human pure. It's good to refrain from these so that our lives are meaningful.


Wrath

Definition : The inappropriate feelings of anger, hatred, revenge or denial.

Often due to intolerance, impatience, or simply ignorance.

Wrath makes people bang doors, throw things, shout vulgars words, scream at others, etc.

It clouds the mind and can cause people to do regrettable things.

Everything happens for a reason. After you throw a tantrum, you still can't change what had happened. Hence, it's good to keep a cool mind.

Cure for Wrath : Kindness


Envy

Definition : Resentment of others for their possessions.

When you are jealous of what others have or when you do not like what others have, that is envy.

What is yours is yours. What is not yours, will not be yours.

What you want, you make an effort to earn it. Having envy only make yourself feel miserable.

Cure for Envy : Love


Gluttony

Definition : Overindulgence in food, drink, intoxicants, or pleasure

When you consistently eat more than what your body can take, that is gluttony.

It is considered a sin because it is a wastage of food, and harm to the body.

An overindulgence in drugs (toxics, alcohols, cigarettes etc) and pleasure (clubbing, pubbing etc) is also considered gluttony.

Cure for Gluttony : Moderation


Greed

Definition : Wanting more than what you need.

It can refer to money, power, praises or other materialistic possessions.

Gambling is a form of greed.
If you play mahjong or cards with very small stakes and with your 'excess' money, then you can consider it as entertainment.
But when you risk your money in the hope to get more money, that is greed.

Some people need more money to support their expenses, but, like the chinese saying goes :"If you don't have a big head, don't wear a big hat".

Basically, it means that you should live within your affordable means. Money and fame is never enough. Don't chase after it. Don't be a slave of it.

Cure for Greed : generosity


Lust

Definition : Unlawful sexual desire.

If you want to get married, love your spouse (wife/husband) whole-heartedly.
A spouse is for you to love and take care of.
If you can't be faithful, don't get married, cos you will hurt someone.

Cure for Lust : self-control


Pride

Definition : A desire to be important or attractive to others, or excessive love of one-self.

Examples:
People who likes to show off.
People who don't admit they are wrong when they are wrong.
People who walk with their nose in the air.
People who spend too much time beautifying themselves.

Pride and vanity are competitive. If someone else's pride really bothers you, it means you have a lot of pride too.

Cure for Pride : humility (to be humble)


Sloth

Definition : Laziness

Laziness is a sin because you are not doing what your potential can achieve.

It also refers to cowardice, lack of imagination, complacency, and irresponsibility.

If you sleep more than what you need, that is sloth. So on a normal day where you sleep around 1am or 2am and the next day has no school or work, dont sleep until 12 noon or even later. You dont need too much sleep to recuperate. Too much sleep actually makes you more tardy (lazy). So you get more and more sian.

Sitting in front of the computer to chat or play games all day is also a form of sloth, cos you are not putting your time to effective use.

With all the extra time they you spend sleeping or day dreaming unnecessarily, you could have done more meaningful things with your life, from studying, to helping your parents, to learning some new skills, etc.

Cure for Sloth : Zeal (having the passion to do meaningful things)
